Man fatally hit by car while crossing Hiawatha Ave. in Minneapolis
A man is dead after being hit by a car overnight in Minneapolis.
The fatal accident happened around 3:10 a.m. at the intersection of Hiawatha Ave. and E. 26th St. Minneapolis police report that a man believed to be in his 50s was crossing Hiawatha Ave. from east to west when he was hit by a car that was traveling south on Hiawatha.
The pedestrian was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center and died a short time later. His identity has not been released.
The driver of the car is a man believed to be in his 20s. He stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. He is not suspected of being impaired at the time of the crash.
Police will review traffic cameras to verify information they received at the scene, which was mapped for crash reconstruction by the MPD Crime Lab.
An official cause of death and identity of the victim will be released at a later stage by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office.
