A possible road rage fatal shooting is under investigation in western Wisconsin.

According to the Barron County Sheriff's Department, Barron police and other officials responded to North Mill Street in Barron around 4:44 p.m. Monday following a report that a man had been shot and the suspect had fled in a car.

The initial investigation points to a possible road rage incident involving a 20-year-old man from Cumberland who fatally shot Lauritz Robertson, 45, of Barron. Robertson was pronounced dead at the scene.

While police were en route to the scene, the 20-year-old Cumberland man called 911 and reported he was the shooter. He was later taken into custody in the parking lot of the city's justice center.

The suspect is being held pending formal charges which could include second-degree intentional homicide.

Police said there is no danger to the public.
