Man found dead in Minnesota state park identified

The 41-year-old went missing after recreating with friends at the park.

A man who was found dead after going missing while at a campground in northern Minnesota has been identified as 41-year-old Melvin Rivera, of Deer River, Minnesota. 

Rivera was reported missing just after 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, after he walked away from friends recreating together at Schoolcraft State Park in rural Deer River. 

The campground and forest was searched that night and resumed the next day, leading to the discovery of Rivera's body in the Mississippi River around 2:45 p.m. Thursday. 

According to his obituary, Rivera is a native of El Salvador, having moved to Deer River in 2001. He most recently worked for Pipeliners Union 798 and previously was employed by Leech Lake Gaming. 

He is survived by his wife, four children and parents, his obituary said.
