A man who started a standoff with police in Forest Lake was found dead inside a home Monday afternoon.

According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, Forest Lake police responded to a report of domestic violence at the 23100 block of Hilo Avenue North around 11:30 a.m. Officers responding to the address were confronted by a man pointing a long gun in their direction.

Officers set up a perimeter around the home, securing the area and awaited the arrival of the Washington County SWAT team.

Attempts to communicate with the man were unsuccessful so SWAT made entry through the front door and found the man lying on the floor, suffering from what the sheriff's office describes as a "medical event."

Paramedics attempted to save the man but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man's identity is being withheld pending review by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office.

No law enforcement officers were injured in the standoff.
