Police have launched a homicide investigation after finding a man lying dead on a Minneapolis bike path.

The discovery was made on the 200 block of West River Parkway, not far from the Mill City Museum and Guthrie Theater, at 11:50 p.m. Monday, when officers on a routine patrol came across the man lying on the bike path.

They noticed the man had "suffered trauma," was not breathing and had no heartbeat.

The fire department and paramedics were called, with officers starting CPR. However, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers and investigators canvassed the surrounding areas and spoke with people who may have heard or seen something," said MPD spokesman John Elder.

The victim's identity and the nature of their death will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office in the coming days.
