Man found 'hiding' after crashing truck into Mississippi River in Minneapolis
A man who was missing after a vehicle crashed into the Mississippi River in Minneapolis early Thursday has been found.
Minneapolis police, fire and EMS responded to a report of a crash near Main Street Northeast between 1st Avenue Northeast and 3rd Avenue Northeast at 2:31 a.m., MPD spokesperson John Elder said.
When they arrived, they found a woman who was wet with mud on her. She told police she'd fallen asleep and when she woke up, the truck was partially submerged in the river and the driver was gone.
The vehicle was in the water, about 50 feet down an embankment near Nicollet Island.
Crews searched the area for the missing man without success. It wasn't until the vehicle was being towed from the water that police spotted the driver "hiding" in the underbrush about 100 feet away, Elder said.
Everyone involved in the crash has now been accounted for and no one was injured.
No other details have been released.
