A Stillwater man has been sentenced to more than six years in prison for kidnapping and raping a woman he found unconscious on the street over the July 4 holiday weekend.

Jeremiah Johnson, 26, was convicted of taking the woman to his apartment in Stillwater and raping her after he found her lying on a sidewalk, “intoxicated, passed out and incapacitated,” on St. Paul's East Side.

The woman told police she drank too much after watching fireworks and passed out, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

According to the Washington County Attorney’s Office, Johnson spotted the woman at Edgerton Street and Case Avenue East early on the morning of July 5. He proceeded to get out of his truck, pick her up with her arms dangling “limp and lifeless,” the attorney’s office says, and drive off with her.

Witnesses saw Johnson's actions, got a partial license plate and called police, who traced the vehicle to Johnson's Stillwater apartment.

Police found the victim at his apartment building, as well as evidence of sexual activity, according to the charges.

Johnson pleaded guilty last week to kidnapping and third-degree criminal sexual conduct and was sentenced to six years and five months in prison. He will also need to register as a predatory sexual offender for 10 years, according to the County Attorney's office.
