A man was transported to Hennepin Healthcare in grave condition early Tuesday after a shooting near the Minneapolis-St. Paul border, and he did not survive his injuries.
Minneapolis Police Department reports that State Patrol troopers were in the area of 46th St. and Hiawatha Ave. when they heard gunshots at 12:23 a.m. MPD officers were also alerted to the shooting.
While responding, the troopers spotted a motorist traveling at a high rate of speed near 46th St. and Snelling Ave., and after stopping the vehicle the troopers found a woman driver and a male passenger who was suffering from gunshot wounds.
Troopers provided medical assistance until paramedics arrived and transported the man to the hospital. An update Tuesday morning said the man died, with MPD launching a homicide investigation before his death "due to the severity" of his injuries.
The woman who was driving the vehicle is not considered a suspect, police said. No arrests have been made.
