A 28-year-old man from Illinois is fighting for his life after falling from a cliff at Taylors Falls on Monday.

A woman who witnessed the accident just before 4:30 p.m. called 911 and reported to the Chisago County Sheriff's Office that the man had fallen from a rock face and was lying face down, motionless on the rocks below.

First responders arrived at 307 Milltown Road in Interstate State Park and located him on a rocky area near the St. Croix River. He suffered extensive head trauma, scrapes and cuts and was going in and out of consciousness. It was unclear, however, how far he had fallen.

Paramedics were able to secure him onto a backboard and into a rescue boat, where he was transported to an ambulance and taken to St. Croix Falls Regional Medical Center, then airlifted to Regions Trauma Center in St. Paul.
