A man was killed and five more people were injured in a 4-vehicle crash on Hwy. 52 in St. Paul Thursday afternoon.

The incident happened at 12:26 p.m. when a 2016 Chevy Malibu heading north on Hwy. 52 tried to merge into the right hand lane, hitting a Saturn SL.

The Saturn in turn rear-ended a Honda Civic, which hit a Ford Escape.

One of two passengers in the Saturn was killed in the pileup. He has been identified as Anthony Kawino, 33, of Burnsville.

The driver of the Chevy Malibu, a 20-year-old woman from Preston, Minnesota, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, as did the driver and other passenger in the Saturn, and the drivers of the Civic and Escape.

The Minnesota State Patrol says that alcohol did not play a role in the incident, but did say that none of those in the Saturn were wearing their seat belt.
