A man has died in central Minnesota after he crashed his snowmobile and it landed on him.

The Sherburne County Sheriff's Office said that Van Brook Zoller, 46, of the Becker area, died after the crash early Tuesday morning at the intersection of 165th Avenue and 47th Street SE south of Santiago.

Zoller was traveling south on 165th just after 12:30 a.m. when he hit a snowbank and was thrown from his snowmobile.

The snowmobile then landed on him after he fell into a ditch. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

It's the latest in a series of snowmobile fatalities on Minnesota roads this year so far, with more than a half-dozen having been confirmed since January.

This included a couple who died near Henderson last week, as well as a woman who died 9 days after a crash near Nisswa late last month.

There have been 57 deaths on Minnesota roads as of Mar. 12, compared to 45 at the same date last year.
