A 49-year-old man in Oak Grove was killed on Monday by a falling tree.

The tragic accident was reported at 10:23 a.m. on the 22000 block of Drake St. NW., where the man was trying to cut the tree down when the accident happened.

Deputies administered first aid upon arrival, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

He hasn't been identified, with that information expected to be released by the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office at a later stage.

The incident remains under investigation.

Trimming trees is a dangerous endeavor not just for homeowners, but even trained professionals.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics found in 2016 that the fatality rate among ground maintenance workers, which includes tree trimmers, is more than three times the rate of the average worker.
