A man is dead in St. Paul after being shot by police on Sunday evening.

The incident happened in the city's Midway neighborhood, near Thomas Avenue West and North Griggs Street at around 5:50 p.m.

Saint Paul Police Department confirmed that a man died at the scene, and no officers were injured.

The circumstances of the man's death, and the reason for the police's presence at the scene, hasn't been released yet.

But media reports from the scene suggest that a squad car was rear-ended by another vehicle, while the Star Tribune, citing dispatch audio, said police had told someone to "drop the knife."

The shooting comes after a spate of gun crime in St. Paul that has killed several and left many more injured.

It also comes just over a week after police shot and killed 30-year-old Brian Quinones, who got out of his car with a knife after a pursuit that ended in Richfield.
