Man missing on Lake Minnetonka after trying to help struggling swimmer

The emergency unfolded Thursday evening.

A man is missing on Lake Minnetonka after he was one of three people who jumped from a pontoon into the water to help a woman who was struggling.

The incident happened at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Lower Lake area, and involved a group of nine adults on a pontoon.

One of the passengers, a woman, jumped into the water and according to the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, "began to struggle."

Two women and a man jumped from the boat into the water, and the three women made it back on board, but the man is now missing.

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office Water Patrol has been searching the area with sonar.
