A section of Interstate 694 in the Twin Cities was shut down for approximately three hours Friday evening as crews responded to a fatal crash involving a Suzuki sport bike.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the crash happened just after 5 p.m. on I-694 eastbound at Humboldt Avenue in Brooklyn Center. The incident unfolded when a man riding a 2009 Suzuki sport bike tried to maneuver around a man driving a 2013 Volkswagen Passat.

The sport bike made contact with the rear right of the Passat and lost control, killing the driver whose identity is being limited to a 40-year-old man from Brooklyn Center. His name will be released pending notification of family members.

The 63-year-old driver of the Passat was not injured.

Traffic on eastbound I-694 was closed at the I-94 interchange, forcing drivers to use alternative routes. The roadway was reopened around 8 p.m.
