A St. Paul man was sentenced to 30 days in jail and three years of probation for his role in the death of his friend while they were “car surfing” last summer in western Wisconsin.
The Star Tribune reports that the Burnett County District Judge Kenneth Kurtz also sentenced Cole Fohrenkamm, 22, to visit the grave of the buddy who tumbled to his death from the top of a vehicle. The sentence requires him to visit Shawn Swanson’s grave in Mahtomedi on the anniversary of Swanson's death, starting this Aug. 11. Fohrenkamm will be required to place either flowers or a plant on the grave site for the three years of his probation and report to serve 10 of his 30 days in jail following that.

Fohrenkamm pleaded no contest in May to vehicular homicide, reckless driving and causing injury while driving drunk. Swanson fell off the roof of the car Fohrenkamm was driving and hit his head.

Swanson’s mother Renee said she agrees with the punishment.
