Minneapolis police have charged a man they believe punched an 8-year-old and stole his iPad last week.

A surveillance video captured footage of the attack just after 4:30 p.m. Thursday near 2628 Nicollet Avenue South. The video shows a boy walking on a sidewalk when a man rushes up to the boy and strikes him. The boy falls to the pavement and drops his iPad, and it skitters along the sidewalk. The man scoops it up as the boy initially lies motionless.

The boy, who had just left his daycare with his aunt, had a bloodied nose, but was not seriously injured, according to media reports. His mother took him to the hospital, KARE reported.

"You just don't hit a child. You don't hit a child," witness and restaurant manager Mohammad Armeli, who chased down the suspect, told KARE 11. "He punched a child so hard his nose might have broken. There was blood all over his face."

FOX 9 reports that a group of men chased down the suspect, who police promptly found not far from the scene. Aaron Stillday, 32, has now been charged with first-degree aggravated robbery in the case. The stolen – but broken – iPad was recovered.

FOX 9 also reports that the boy told police that the man had used a racial slur during the attack.

MPR's Bob Collins notes that Twin Cities headlines Wednesday tell two stories about people "who just get a little tired of the jerks who try to rob people." The other is the story of the man who kicked a knife-wielding convenience store robber in the face.
