Police fatally shoot man with knife in Robbinsdale
A person is dead after an encounter with police in Robbinsdale Thursday.
The incident happened around 10:50 a.m. when officers from the Robbinsdale Police Department tried to stop a motorist that was registered to an owner with an active felony warrant. The driver was stopped when police performed a PIT maneuver, with more officers using squad vehicles to block the motorist in.
What happened next is according to Robbinsdale PD:
"An adult white male exited the driver side door of the vehicle armed with a knife. Officers made several commands for the suspect to drop the knife but he failed to do so. Officers attempted the use of a Taser, however that was unsuccessful. The suspect continued to charge officers with the knife in an aggressive manner.
"During the altercation an officer discharged their firearm towards the suspect and the suspect was shot. Officers immediately attempted lifesaving measures. The suspect succumbed to his wounds on scene."
Video taken from near the scene that was posted to Facebook shows numerous officers and squad vehicles just north of 37th Ave. N.
In the video, the person recording says someone has a knife, with multiple gunshots then heard before the recording stops. BMTN has received permission to share a screenshot of the video, but the person who took it did not want it to be shared so as to avoid identification.
The deadly shooting comes a little over a week after Dolal Idd was fatally shot by Minneapolis police after exchanging fire in the parking lot of a Holiday gas station in south Minneapolis.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is now leading an investigation into the deadly police shooting. No further information has been released.
