A Colorado man was rescued from Devil Track Lake in Cook County on Sunday after the kayak he was in capsized.
A man, identified as Troy Batchelor of Parker, Colorado, had hopped in a kayak to get a boat that had "escaped him," but then he capsized in the wind and waves on the lake, which is located in the Superior National Forest not far from Grand Marais, the Cook County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post on Monday.
The sheriff's office and Cook County Search and Rescue responded to a call about the incident, where they found Batchelor in the water. He wasn't wearing a life jacket.
Officials launched a patrol boat and went out to Batchelor, helping him onboard. He was taken to North Shore Health. His current condition was not released.
Cook County Sheriff Pat Eliasen said the "quick and precise actions" of the deputies involved were "the key to turning this event from a tragedy into a successful rescue."
