A man's life was saved by his wife after his jet ski exploded in northern Minnesota, causing a near pontoon to also catch fire.

The incident happened around 7 p.m. near the shore on Island Lake in St. Louis County, and was noticed by a firefighter who happened to be on the lake at the time.

It emerged that Timothy and Ann Eliason, aged 54 and 56 respectively, had gone for a jet ski ride on the lake. At one point, Ann left her husband, and there is suspected to have been some kind of explosion, with Ann returning to find the jet ski on fire and her husband unconscious in the water.

She was able to perform life saving measures and revive him, with both taken to a hospital in Duluth by ambulance.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office says that the fire from the jet ski spread to another jet ski and a pontoon nearby.
