Man sentenced to 9 years after 400-pound pot bust

An Inver Grove Heights man has been sentenced to nine years in prison on felony drug charges after nearly 400 pounds of marijuana was found on his property.

Scott Bradley Cunningham, 45, was sentenced in Dakota County court Tuesday, according to County Attorney James Backstrom. He had pleaded guilty to the charges in September.

Cunningham and three other people were charged back in 2011, after authorities found the marijuana in two separate searches of property owned by Cunningham, KARE 11 reports.

Most of the marijuana was found in a secret room hidden behind a false wall at a home in Inver Grove Heights, according to a criminal complaint filed against one of the defendants. The marijuana was found in 72 Rubbermaid storage containers stacked inside the room, according to police.

The marijuana, totaling nearly 400 pounds, had a street value of $1.3 million, Backstrom said in a news release.

“This case involved one of the largest marijuana seizures in our county's history. We are pleased to have brought this defendant to justice in this case," he said.

Seven guns were also seized during the search.

Another defendant, Brian Lee Speldrick, 59, was sentenced to two years of probation and the charges against two other people were dismissed.

A couple of other large pot busts were reported in Minnesota in recent months, including one involving 140 pounds of marijuana seized in Blue Earth County in November, and another in St. Paul in April which netted 200 pounds of pot.
