A man was shot dead in downtown Duluth early Saturday morning in what police say was not a random attack.

A 31-year-old was found wounded after shots were fired on the 100 block of West 1st Street, Duluth police say, and he was later pronounced dead in a local hospital.

Both the victim and the shooter are known to each other, and police have identified someone as a person of interest.

This person has not been found yet though, with police asking anyone with information to call its Violent Crimes Unit on 218-730-5050..

Police are looking not just for details about the shooting, but also any video recordings of photographs taken in the area around the time it happened.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and victim of this tragedy. We will work in earnest to seek and find justice," police chief Mike Tusken said.
