Man shot dead inside home in St. Paul's Payne-Phalen neighborhood

A homicide investigation is underway following a shooting in St. Paul's Payne-Phalen neighborhood this weekend.

It happened Saturday at the intersection of Lawson Ave. E and Mendota St. N, leaving a man dead, according to the police department's Twitter account:

Police say the shooting was reported by a 911 caller in the early afternoon. 

According to a news release, officers arrived to find the victim in a residence suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body; St. Paul Fire paramedics responded and ultimately pronounced the man dead at the scene. 

No arrests have been made yet, the release says. 

This is the 24th homicide of the year in St. Paul; the last one happened Thursday, Sept. 3, when a woman was shot and killed on the city's East Side.
