Man shot in Minneapolis Sunday dies from injuries

It comes after a community event called for an end to gun violence in the Twin Cities.

A man shot in north Minneapolis on Sunday morning has died from his injuries.

The Minneapolis Police Department has identified the victim as 29-year-old Samale Barkhadle.

Police were called to the scene after reports of shots fired in the 1800 block of Emerson Avenue North at 5:31 a.m. Sunday.

It was there they found Barkhadle with gunshot wounds, with police and paramedics providing first aid until he could be taken to Hennepin County Medical Center.

MPD confirmed on Monday that Barkhadle succumbed to his injuries later on Sunday.

"Investigators from the Minneapolis Police Department Homicide Unit have taken over the investigation from the assault unit," police spokesman John Elder said. "No one is in custody at this time."

This is the latest in a rash of gun violence in the Twin Cities, which in recent weeks has included a shooting outside the State Fair and the slaying of a St. Paul man coming out of a bible study class.
