A homicide investigation is underway after a man was shot and killed overnight in downtown Minneapolis.
The killing happened around 12:22 a.m., according to Minneapolis police, who received a 911 call by a person who's friend was providing aid to a man who'd been shot near the 300 block of 1st Ave. N.
Responding officers arrived at the scene and took over providing aid, with the victim then transported to Hennepin County Medical Center where he died from his injuries hours later.
Police searched the area for suspects and additional threats and none were found.
Interviews with witnesses who might've heard or seen something have been conducted, and police have reviewed cameras in the area of the shooting, leading them to believe that there was a "disturbance" between groups of people that escalated into gunfire.
No one else was struck in the shooting, although it's unclear how shots were fired in the dispute.
The identity of the victim along with cause of death will be announced later by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner.
