It was a rough Saturday night for two men in central Minnesota.
The sequence of events unfolded around 10:30 p.m. Jan. 4, with a 32-year-old Sauk Centre man accidentally shooting himself in the hand with a pistol. A 38-year-old Villard, Minnesota, man, then crashed as he was taking him to the hospital.
Police found out about the shooting after responding to the single-vehicle crash on the 500 block of Main Street North in Sauk Centre. There, officers found a Chevrolet Silverado off the road, having struck an electrical box.
Police then got word of a man at CentraCare-Sauk Centre Hospital – only a block or two from the crash scene – who was being treated for a gunshot wound.
A preliminary investigation determined that the men were at a home in the 49000 block of 400th Street when the 32-year-old accidentally shot himself, thus leading to the ensuing crash while en route to the hospital.
The 32-year-old's hand injury was non-life-threatening.
