A 43-year-old man was arrested in connection with the deadly stabbing near a busy Minneapolis light rail station.

Minneapolis Police said late Wednesday evening a suspect is in custody, being held on possible criminal charges. (GoMN generally does not name suspects before they've been charged.)

The stabbing happened Tuesday evening just outside the Hiawatha light rail station at 2200 Lake Street East. The victim was taken to the hospital and died. Police have said he and the suspect knew each other.

Man stabbed to death near Minneapolis light rail station

A man has died from stab wounds after an attack near a Minneapolis light rail station Tuesday evening.

Police were called to the scene at the 2200 block of Lake Street East, near the underpass below the Lake Street station, by several people who witnessed the stabbing take place around 7:15 p.m.

When they arrived they found the stabbed man and took him to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he died from his injuries, according to a Minneapolis police press release.

Part of the stabbing was caught on surveillance camera, with investigators believing the attacker and victim knew each other.

That said, no arrest has yet been made and no description of the suspect has been released at this point by police.

The Star Tribune reports this is the 32nd homicide in Minneapolis this year, with a witness saying he saw the victim run and fall near the Lake Street entrance of the light rail station.

He tried to get up and walk away, but collapsed a second time and stayed down, the newspaper notes.

The victim's name will be released at a later stage by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner.
