A 50-year-old Minnesota man was arrested Tuesday after stealing a medical van from a hospital in Brainerd and driving it erratically through the city.

Brainerd police say the incident began around 2:40 p.m. when a Breezy Point man at Essentia Health-St. Joseph's Medical Center's emergency room stole a Medi-Van. He reportedly hit a dumpster in the parking lot and proceeded to drive it through Brainerd.

Multiple witnesses reported seeing the van driving wildly through the heart of the city and up and down sidewalks.

Brainerd and Baxter police stopped the man on the 500 block of Maple Street, at which point he got out of the van and tried to run. Police used a stun gun to stop him and he was arrested and booked into Crow Wing County Jail.

Police say a hospital staff member suffered minor injuries as the man was leaving the hospital.

It's unclear what the man was doing at the hospital in the first place, nor is it clear if he was a patient.
