A man was struck by lightning while at Lake Elmo's popular drive-in movie theater.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office said the strike happened around 10:26 p.m. at Vali-Hi Drive In. The man was apparently conscious and responsive when first responders arrived, and he was taken to Regions Hospital in an ambulance.
The sheriff's office did not include the severity of the man's injuries, nor say whether he was hit directly or was just very close to the lightning strike.
Bursts of storms hit portions of the Twin Cities region late Thursday into Friday, with some spots right around Lake Elmo getting more than an inch of rain.
The storm rattled some other moviegoers at the drive-in, which was showing Jungle Cruise and Black Widow.
"That strike tho!!! 👌 almost peed my pants!" one Facebook user wrote.
Said another: "The afterimage stayed for 5 mins…that first strike was very close! Second strike took out the power."
Others noted lightning at one point cut out the drive-in's audio and video. There were also local reports of flash flooding on the nearby road.
