Man surrenders after 12-hour standoff at Eagan home
An hours-long standoff in a residential area of Eagan ended with police taking a local man into custody Sunday.
The incident began at around 6:40 a.m. when a 911 caller reported a man inside a home on the 3100 block of Jurdy Road "threatening to set it on fire."
According to a news release, the caller said that they woke up to "the male pouring gasoline inside the residence and again, threatening to set the home on fire."
By the time officers arrived, the suspect was the lone occupant of the home, with everyone else inside having apparently escaped to safety.
The man, who has not yet been identified or charged with any crimes, barricaded himself inside the residence. Negotiations lasted for 12 hours before he finally agreed to surrender at 6:00 pm.
The incident resulted in a heavily armed police presence, with the SWAT team responding and authorities warning residents to stay clear of the area.
The Eagan Police Department says the suspect will be evaluated by medical staff. No injuries were reported.
