The man who died in St. Paul after he was found unresponsive in a parking ramp had moments earlier attempted to rob a worker at the nearby Church of Scientology.

St. Paul Police Department says the 52-year-old was found at the parking ramp at 505 Wabasha Street in downtown St. Paul, with officers arriving to find him being held down by several church members.

He died later at Regions Hospital despite efforts to resuscitate him at the scene via chest compressions.

Witnesses told police the 52-year-old had intimated having a gun as he attempted to rob a 49-year-old on their way to work at the Church of Scientology.

A fight broke out between the deceased and the robbery victim, prompting other church employees to come out and assist.

At this stage, no arrests have been made in the incident, with police awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine the man's cause of death.

Everyone involved in the incident has been interviewed by police.
