Man who drowned in Crystal Lake jumped from boat to save his girlfriend

He was formally identified by the medical examiner.

A drowning victim in the south metro Saturday night has been identified as a Burnsville man, who was reportedly attempting to save his girlfriend.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as 36-year-old Matthew K. Brust, of Burnsville. He died of a freshwater drowning and the manner of death was ruled an accident.

According to KARE 11, Brust and his girlfriend were boating on Crystal Lake when she fell into the water. He jumped in to save her, and while she was able to return safely to the boat, the boat drifted away from Brust and he wasn't able to make it back to safety.
