Man who posed as police officer and raped woman sentenced to 27 years

A Brooklyn Center man accused of posing as a police officer and sexually assaulting a woman was sentenced Tuesday to 27 years in prison.

Gideon Charles Arrington II, 36, pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree criminal assault back in May after police say he acted as a detective and raped a woman last November.

Arrington's sentence exceeds state guidelines, which recommend a sentence of 12 to 17 years, KSTP says. Judge Dyanna Street says aggravating factors, such as the particular cruelty of the attack, justified the longer sentence, The Associated Press reports.

"I am satisfied that this sentence holds the defendant accountable for his actions," Anoka County Attorney Tony Palumbo told KARE 11. "We hope today's event helps the victim in the healing process."

According to the criminal complaint, Arrington abducted the woman in Fridley after telling her he was a detective, then handcuffed and blindfolded her and drove her to an unknown location where he repeatedly raped her. After each assault, Arrington “scrubbed her entire body with a bleach-type solution." He also washed her clothes.

Prosecutors say they used his DNA from the woman's body to identify Arrington.
