A man who chased residents of a small community with his car, seriously injuring two after striking them, has pleaded guilty in federal court.

Kevin Roger Doerr, 35, of Itasca County, has been convicted of assault with a dangerous weapon and assault resulting in serious bodily injury for his actions on Apr. 7, 2020, in Elbow Lake Village on the White Earth Indian Reservation.

According to the Acting U.S. District Attorney for Minnesota W. Anders Folk, evidence at the trial showed that Doerr was "driving erratically" through the village on that day last April.

"Neighbors called 911 to report that a silver Chevrolet Monte Carlo, driven by Doerr, was trying to run people over and chasing people through the neighborhood," it said.

Police arrived to find "a chaotic scene with neighbors outside and two badly injured victims" that Doerr had hit with his vehicle, who had to be airlifted to a hospital.

Doerr was taken into custody and after pleading guilty, is now awaiting sentencing.

“Today, a jury held Mr. Doerr accountable for assaulting an individual and terrorizing a small, quiet community,” said Folk. "I commend the work of the prosecution team and our investigative partners who pursued justice in this case.”
