A man has been charged in Dakota County with the assault of a Lyft driver at the end of his ride to Farmington.
The incident was reported on Thursday, April 1 by the driver, who according to a criminal complaint was "visibly upset and physically trembling" when police arrived at the scene.
The victim said he had picked up the customer in Burnsville and taken him to Farmington.
As they approached the destination, the customer – identified as Amory Alban Dean, 34, of no listed address – pulled out a green-handled folding knife and threatened to kill the driver.
He then attempted to strangle the driver, who managed to stop the vehicle and escape. Dean briefly chased him, but the driver was able to get back in the car and call 911.
The complaint says that while being taken to jail, Dean made "several derogatory statements" about the victim "related to his country of origin." The driver's country of origin was not described in the criminal complaint.
