A manhunt that closed schools and put residents on alert ended Monday afternoon with shots fired, and the arrest of a wanted suspect.

The Racine County Sheriff's Office was "actively searching" for 20-year-old Stantavious Armond Sillas (pictured above) who was considered armed and dangerous, the sheriff's office wrote on Facebook.

He was suspected in the abduction of a hospital employee Sunday afternoon, and an ensuing shootout with investigators.

He has not been charged in either incident.

But around 2:15 p.m. Monday, Sillas was arrested in Racine, according to WISN, with reports of shots fired as things came to a close. Sillas' condition is not reported. It's also not known if any officers were injured. The Journal Times says an ambulance was on the scene.

What happened

Police say the suspect abducted a female employee at Lakeview Specialty Hospital and Rehab in Dover, Wisconsin, a little over five hours from the Twin Cities, around 3 p.m. Sunday, the Journal Times reports.

About an hour later, officials tracked down the suspect in the parking lot of a Union Grove, Wisconsin, Piggly Wiggly. Police told the newspaper the suspect fired several rounds at an investigator, who then returned fire.

The suspect fled the scene on foot, WISN reports, leaving the hospital employee behind. She was visibly shaken, but not injured, the Journal Times notes.

A large-scale manhunt that included officers from five agencies and a helicopter from the Winthrop Harbor, Illinois, police department ensued, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel says. People living in the area were asked to stay in their homes Sunday night and told not to attempt to contact the suspect.

As a result of the ongoing search, five schools in the area were closed Monday, according to a post on the sheriff's office's Facebook page.
