A woman who was assaulted in her home by an intruder has died.

The Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office confirmed Friday that 76-year-old Evelyn Adams died of injuries sustained when an unknown man broke into her home in South Bend Township just before 11 p.m. Feb. 23.

Specific details about the woman's death haven't been released, but the initial report from the sheriff's office said the woman was hospitalized and in serious condition following the incident.

A 911 caller reported a person leaving the woman's home on Union Street, and a short time later the victim called 911 saying she'd been assaulted.

The suspect fled the scene on foot before deputies arrived, concealing their identity to the point that there isn't a great physical description.

The suspect is "believed to be associated with a sport utility vehicle seen leaving the area by a witness," the sheriff's office said.

"The incident in South Bend Township appears to be isolated and the circumstances of the investigation indicate that the public is not in danger," the sheriff's office said Friday. "There have been no similar incidents leading up to, or since the report."

Anyone with information that could help the Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office find the culprit is asked to call county dispatch at 507-304-4863.
