A 17-year-old Mankato driver crashed and rolled his vehicle after he swerved to avoid hitting a group of ducklings, the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier reported.

The crash happened on U.S. 218 Saturday morning in Waterloo, Iowa. The teen driver, Juan Bolanos, was trying to avoid the ducklings when he hit a van, pushed it into the cement median, and then rolled his own vehicle, which came to rest on its roof, the newspaper reported.

Bolanos was not injured, but passenger Teresa Mendiola-Zamora, 44, of Mankato, was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said. Another passenger, Jesus Osorio-Tadeo, 33, of Mankato, was treated at the scene for an elbow injury.

The 27-year-old driver of the van was also injured, but her condition was not reported.

Bolanos was cited for failure to maintain control, the Courier reported. The ducklings were moved to safety.
