A Fillmore County man's body was pulled from the Root River near Peterson on Wednesday after a friend reported he hadn't returned from fishing.

The Fillmore County Sheriff's Office said officers with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources on an airboat found the man's body at 1:23 p.m. Wednesday. It was a short distance from the man's flotation raft, between Peterson and Rushford.

Officials searched the Root River after a friend reported around midnight Wednesday that the man went fishing alone on the river Tuesday afternoon and hadn't returned home.

The man's name and his official cause of death will be released later, the release says.

As of June 21, there have been six non-boating drownings and five boating fatalities so far this year, the Minnesota DNR says. These figures do not include the several water-related deaths that occurred over the Fourth of July holiday weekend
