The man who confessed to committing multiple acts of vandalism at a Maple Grove church because of its stance on gay marriage now faces criminal charges.

FOX 9 reports 45-year-old Lonny Roseland is charged with bias-motivated, third-degree damage to property and disorderly conduct.

Roseland, who lives less than a mile away from Pilgrims United Church of Christ, sat down with the television station last week and admitted to egging the church and writing anti-gay sentiments on the buildings exterior on four separate occasions in the last two months.

“If they were atheists I really wouldn’t have had a problem with them, but they call themselves the United Church of Christ," Roseland told FOX 9 last week.

After the first three incidents, Maple Grove police installed a surveillance camera on the outside of the church that captured Roseland in a wheelchair throwing eggs at the front door on the morning of July 28.

After police asked for the public's help in identifying the vandal, a public tip lead investigators to Roseland.

According to the criminal complaint, Roseland told investigators that he believes Pilgrims United is a cult for supporting same-sex marriage.

Roseland is not in custody. If he's convicted of both the gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor charges, he could face a maximum sentence of one year and three months in prison and up to $4,000 in fines, FOX 9 reports.
