Maplewood police looking for suspects behind playground fire
If you know who set fire to the playground in Maplewood this month, local authorities would like to hear from you.
The city has put out a call for tips in the suspected arson case, which happened at Gethsemane Park on 7th St. E. last weekend:
According to the above press release, Maplewood Public Safety officers were called to the park to respond to the fire just before midnight on Friday, May 7, finding the playground "fully engulfed" in flames.
Two juveniles were seen "running from the park" at the time of the fire, though no description of the pair is available.
Fortunately, no injuries resulted from the fire, which is now under investigation by both police and fire department investigators.
The release says the city is working with the League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust to replace the playground equipment.
Anyone with information on the cause of the fire is asked to contact Sergeant Joe Steiner at joe.steiner@maplewoodmn.gov or 651-249-2608.
