Police have arrested a Maplewood teenager in connection with a fatal shooting at a busy strip mall in Maplewood Saturday night, according to reports.

Maplewood police said two male victims were shot around 8:45 p.m. as they left Merwin Liquors on Larpenteur Avenue and Rice Street.

Terrence Woods, 25, was killed and Jamil Ellis, 24, was shot in the leg, but is expected to survive, police told the Star Tribune Sunday.

Police told KSTP there was a third person with Woods and Ellis, but he ran from the scene while being shot at. His identity hasn't been released.

Maplewood Police Chief Paul Schnell called the shooting a "dangerous situation where two people were shot at a busy time at a very busy strip mall," according to the Pioneer Press.

The victims had spoken with the occupants of a car in the parking lot of the liquor store before they went inside. Police believe shots were fired from the car when the victims exited the store.

Police found the white Honda Accord believed to have been involved in the shooting late Saturday night and arrested the 19-year-old suspect, KSTP says. He is being held without bail at the Ramsey County jail pending charges, which are expected this week, the Star Tribune says.

Officials said the investigation is ongoing and they continue to seek the identity and location of the remaining suspects, reports said.

Police haven't said what led to the shooting, but Schnell told the Star Tribune that "it appears to be an act of senseless violence. We are committed to finding everyone responsible for this crime to ensure justice and accountability."

The liquor store is in the same strip mall as several restaurants and retailers and nearby the Stargate nightclub, but police said on the department's Facebook page there is no indication the shooting has any connection to the nightclub.

There are no violent crime statistics on the police department's website, but people commenting on the department's Facebook page indicated shots fired reports have been increasing as of late.
