Mark Mauer, one of 19 men who police say was snared in a prostitution investigation at a Fridley hotel, has resigned as head varsity football coach at Hill-Murray High School, FOX 9 reports.

Mark Mauer was a major-gifts officer at the Maplewood school, Hill-Murray spokeswoman Sheri Lunn told the Star Tribune. He was not a teacher there, Lunn told the newspaper.

Mauer, the cousin of Twins catcher Joe Mauer, last week was cited for soliciting prostitution, a misdemeanor. Police conducted a sting at the LivInn Hotel on Central Avenue and cited four women with prostitution and 19 men with soliciting.

Investigators said Mauer, 54, of Woodbury, was one of the men who had arranged for a prostitution through an online ad.

The 2012 season was Mauer's first season as Hill-Murray football coach, and he led the team to and 8-3 record and the quarterfinals in the Class 4A state tournament, Fox 9 noted.

Mauer last May replaced former Vikings quarterback Brooks Bollinger at Hill-Murray. Bollinger resigned after one season to become the quarterbacks coach at the University of Pittsburgh.

Prior to that, Mauer had coached seven seasons at Concordia University in St. Paul.
