Mayo Clinic worker who went missing in extreme cold found safe in Illinois
The 31-year-old Mayo Clinic employee who was reported missing in extreme cold earlier this week has been found safe, according to the Winona County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office didn't release details about Leigh Elizabeth Meska, of Goodview, Minnesota, but KAAL-TV in Rochester spoke to Goodview's police chief who said Meska was found safe in Rockford, Illinois.
It's unclear what she was doing in Illinois, but KAAL-TV reports that Meska's parents were on their way to pick her up.
Meska was reported missing after she left for work Wednesday at around 6:42 a.m.
Because of the extreme cold and dangerous wind chills, concern for her safety was elevated and a search was carried out, ultimately leading to involvement from the FBI and Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
The search in Olmsted and Winona counties was canceled around 2 p.m. Thursday after authorities confirmed a report that she was seen in La Crosse, Wisconsin the night before.
Prior to been spotted, her cell phone pinged southeast of Rochester around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Interstate 90 and Hwy. 52.
