The world-renown Mayo Clinic is slowing its hiring pace even as it forges ahead with long-term expansion plans, the Rochester Post Bulletin reports.

Mayo is making some conservative moves amid health-care reform changes, a slow economy and other challenges, the newspaper reports.

"We're making changes internally to be financially responsible," Mayo CEO John Noseworthy told the Post-Bulletin on Thursday.

A fast-aging population is fueling some of Mayo's growth, which has led to a bit of a construction boom in Rochester, MPR reported in a story last summer.

The Post Bulletin noted that Mayo helped make Rochester the top city in the state for job growth.
