Mayo to build new $28M hospital in Cannon Falls

Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic Health System plans to break ground on a new $28 million medical center in Cannon Falls, Minn., this spring, according to a news release.

“This new facility will benefit the community, the region, and more importantly, our patients," Tom Witt, CEO of Mayo Clinic Health System in Cannon Falls, Lake City and Red Wing, said in a statement. "It will help us deliver the care our community expects and deserves and enable greater collaboration between care delivered in Rochester, Red Wing, Lake City and other communities.”

The new 90,000-square-foot facility will be nearly three times larger than Mayo's current hospital in Cannon Falls. The additional space will be used to expand emergency medical services, improve privacy and add new technology.

The clinic expects the project to be ready by fall of 2014.

The Pioneer Press notes Mayo Clinic's health system has operated the Cannon Falls hospital since 2006.

Last year, Mayo paid $64 million to buy Fairview's hospital and clinic in nearby Red Wing.
