Medical examiner IDs water tower worker who died in Minnetonka

The 50-year-old died at the scene Friday.

The man who died while working inside a water tower in Minnetonka has been identified by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office as 50-year-old Albino Chavez Rubio. 

The Grand Saline, Texas, man was working inside the Woodland Water Tower at 5604 Hathaway Lane when the accident was reported around 12:30 p.m. Friday, June 18.

The medical examiner's ruled that the man died of "traumatic asphyxia when his torso became pinned between a cable-hoisted bucket and an elevated walkway in a water tower." 

Rescue crews from the Minnetonka Fire Department and Edina Technical Rescue Team, along with paramedics an da physician from Hennepin Healthcare, were able to reach the man inside the water tower and free him from his harness. 

Responders attempted to resuscitate Rubio for more than 30 minutes, but he died at the scene. 

The medical examiner says the accidental death is being investigated by Minnetonka Police Department and OSHA.
