Law enforcement officials from all over the state gathered with family and friends Friday at funeral for St. Paul police officer Josh Lynaugh, who died last week after suffering from a heart attack on duty, WCCO-TV reports.

Lynaugh, 30, was remembered in a memorial service at the Cathedral of St. Paul. The five-year veteran of the force died Feb. 16 from complications of the heart attack he suffered two weeks earlier when chasing someone on foot.

Fox 9 reports that an estimated 800 people attended the service.

Several St. Paul streets closed for the funeral services and procession that followed.

Joining those in attendance were Gov. Mark Dayton and St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman, who called Lynaugh a "gentle giant" who wanted to follow in his officer father's footsteps.

Josh Lynaugh's father, retired St. Paul police Sgt. Tim Lynaugh, had pinned his badge on his son during his 2007 graduation.

Dayton issued a proclamation for flags to be flown at half-staff Friday in honor of Josh Lynaugh.
