Minn. teen mom charged in 22-month-old's death
An 18-year-old mother has been charged in Redwood County with second-degree murder in the death of her 22-month-old son in southwestern Minnesota, the Associated Press reports.
According to a criminal complaint, police were called Saturday night about a child who had stopped breathing at a Redwood Falls home where Sandra Ann Highbear was living, the AP says. Officers found the boy, Conroy, on a couch, and officers found his mother in the kitchen crying.
Officers could not revive the child and he was pronounced dead at a hospital, the AP reports. An autopsy indicates he had bruises and died of peritonitis due to a ruptured stomach, the AP says.
The Redwood Falls Police and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are investigating, the Redwood Falls Gazette reported.
The funeral was scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at Cornerstone Christian Church, the Redwood Falls Gazette reports.
