A gang leader that was suspected of attempting to distribute cocaine and crack to greater Minnesota was sentenced to 15 years in prison, the Department of Justice said in a release.

Louis Lee Frasier Banks, 26, was a leader of the Minneapolis-based Taliban/Young N' Thuggin (YNT) gang. Seven members of those gangs were indicted on drug trafficking charges in March of 2015.

On Oct. 13, 2015, Banks pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine and possession of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime.

According to the defendant's guilty plea and court documents, the Taliban/YNT gangs operate out of north Minneapolis and are enemies with the 1-9 Dipset and Stick Up Boys. The gang members would carry guns to protect themselves and their operation from their rivals. (11 men from those gangs were indicted for weapons charges a few months before the Taliban/YNT gangs).

The Taliban/YNT are organized for the purpose to trafficking illegal drugs to St. Cloud, Duluth and Fargo to make more money.

Crack that the Taliban/YNT could sell in the metro area for $20 could be sold for $50 in greater Minnesota and crack cocaine sold for $150 in the Twin Cities would fetch as much as $250 in greater Minnesota.

The other defendants in the case were:

  • Carnel Lavel Harrison, 26, a.k.a. "Boo Man" was sentenced to 10 years in prison and five years of supervised release.
